The Science of Pressure + Oxygen

At sea level, we live at approximately 1 ATA of atmospheric pressure. Inside the KOVE Hyperbaric Chamber Pro, pressure can be increased to up to 1.5 ATA.

At the same time, the supplied oxygen concentrator produces oxygen at approximately 90–95% concentration, compared with approximately 21% oxygen in normal air.

Importantly, the chamber itself is pressurised using air. Concentrated oxygen is delivered separately to the user through the supplied breathing interface.

Increasing ambient pressure while breathing oxygen-rich gas increases the partial pressure of oxygen being inhaled. This is the fundamental physiological principle behind hyperbaric oxygen exposure.

Hyperbaric oxygen has been extensively studied within medicine, sport and human physiology. However, equipment, operating pressures, oxygen delivery and protocols vary considerably between systems and applications.

90–95% Concentrated Oxygen

The chamber is supplied with its own dedicated 5 L/min oxygen concentrator, producing oxygen at approximately 90–95% concentration.

The concentrator separates oxygen from the surrounding air before delivering concentrated oxygen directly to the user through the supplied breathing interface.

This is an important distinction: the entire chamber is not filled with concentrated oxygen. The chamber is pressurised with air while the oxygen concentrator provides a separate concentrated oxygen supply for breathing.

There are also no oxygen cylinders to replace as part of normal operation. The concentrator generates concentrated oxygen from ambient air while the system is in use.

What a Session Looks Like

Get comfortable inside the chamber and begin the pressurisation process according to the supplied operating instructions.

As the chamber pressure gradually increases, concentrated oxygen is supplied separately through the breathing interface.

Once the selected operating pressure has been reached, settle into your session and use the time however works best for you.

At the end of the session, the chamber is gradually depressurised in accordance with the operating instructions before you exit.

What does 1.5 ATA mean?

ATA stands for atmospheres absolute. Normal atmospheric pressure at sea level is approximately 1 ATA. At its maximum operating pressure, the KOVE chamber creates an environment at approximately 1.5 times normal absolute atmospheric pressure.

Why does pressure matter?
